Slips, Trips and Falls - the bane of industry?

During the period 2008-2009, slip and trip accidents caused 40 deaths and 15,000 major injuries (such as broken bones). On top of this, there were about 30,000 injuries that resulting in staff taking more than three days off work (so making the accident reportable under RIDDOR). From these figures, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) calculated that the cost to the UK economy of slips, trips and falls was in the order of £800 million. Amazingly, these figures are blower lower than those for the previous year, but they still constitute a drag on the UK economy and on the recovery of businesses.
The Health and Safety Executive continue to take Slips, Trips and Falls seriously and are continuing their "Shattered Lives" campaign.
